Analysis of coronary disease data in Israel provides interesting findings • Is there a difference between the two sexes? • At what age may the condition worsen? • Prof. Segal: "We knew that the risk of a corona patient reaching a difficult situation increases with age and now it is possible to put a number on it"

From an analysis of the morbidity data in Corona in Israel, conducted by Prof. Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute, it can be seen that the risk of men aged 30-40 who contracted the virus deteriorating and becoming seriously ill is almost seven times higher than that of women.

The risk of men is higher compared to women in all age groups, except among those aged 70 and over, so the risk of men and women and people aged 80 and over is equal to the risk of women with coronary heart disease being slightly higher than that of men.

How much more likely are men to deteriorate into a serious condition from Corona compared to women? At the age of 30-40 the risk is 6.6 times higher, at the age of 40-44 the risk of men is 4.9 times higher.

Later on the gaps continue to narrow: at the age of 60-64 the risk of men is twice as great and above the age of 80 the risk of corona patients degenerating into a similar difficult situation between men and women. Since the beginning of the corona outbreak, data from Israel and around the world have shown that there are more deceased people who are older men. On the other hand, the distribution of those infected shows that slightly more men are infected.

It can now be said what the risk of a corona patient to degenerate into a severe condition according to his age and gender. In both sexes one in three corona patients over the age of 80 will deteriorate to a severe condition (32% in women and 31% in men). Among people aged 70 to 74, the risk of men with corona disease reaching a difficult situation is one in 5 (17.7%), while in women one in 7 (13.2%). At younger ages the risk of deterioration is lower.

Chances of severe illness in men

aged 30-40: 1.4%

aged 40-44: 2.3%

aged 50-54: 4.7%

aged 60-64: 9.4%

Chances of severe morbidity in women

aged 30-40: 0.2%

aged 40-44: 0.5%

aged 50-54: 1.5%

aged 60-64: 4.6%

"We knew that the risk of a corona patient getting into a difficult situation increases with age and now it is possible to put a number on it," says Prof. Segal. "It can be seen that the increase is non-linear and the risk of getting into a difficult situation increases steeply with age. The data reinforce what we say all the time, that if you want to avoid the congestion in hospitals - it is important to protect the elderly population who are at risk."

Definitely, you can also see in the graph but here are the numbers

for women the chance of degenerating into a severe condition from Corona is

at 30-40: 0.2%

at 40-44: 0.5%

at 50-54: 1.5%

at 60-64: 4.6%

at 70-74: 13.2 %

Over age 80: 32% https://t.co/JooIhKVvxg pic.twitter.com/HTRHoiJces
