The Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X are expected to hit the market in a few months. Sony and Microsoft are gradually releasing new information about the next-gen consoles. Although important details about the PS5 and the Xbox Series X are still missing - including the price - many gamers have already decided which of the two consoles they will choose. According to various survey results, the PS5 is the clear favorite with the majority . Is it Microsoft's own fault?
PS5 versus Xbox Series X: Survey results speak for themselves
Experience12 agency conducted a survey of over 3,000 pop culture fans in the UK (via mcvuk.com). Among the participants, 84 percent of those surveyed said they were most excited about the PS5 . Only 15 percent named the Xbox Series X here . A very similar picture shows the survey we carried out (see picture below). Of over 11,000 participants, 72 percent said they would buy the PS5 - 28 percent would choose the Xbox Series X (as of July 31, 2020).

Disinterest in Xbox Series X is not necessarily due to a lack of exclusive titles
The argument is often given that Microsoft and Xbox are missing attractive exclusive titles as "system sellers" - as a reason to buy the new console. But the UK survey contradicts this assumption. Because among the top 5 titles that gamers are looking forward to, there is no exclusive title from its major competitor Sony. Instead, an exclusive game for the Xbox appears with " Halo Infinite ". The five titles are the following games:
- Cyberpunk 2077 (CD project)
- Marvel's Avengers (Square-Enix)
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 Remaster (Activision)
- Dying Light 2 (Techland)
- Halo Infinite (Xbox Game Studios)
Recently, Microsoft presented a longer gameplay video of "Halo Infinite", which however left many disappointed viewers. Since Experience12's survey was conducted earlier, it could well be that Halo Infinite would not come out as high in a new survey.

Is Microsoft pursuing the wrong strategy with the Xbox Series X?
Xbox boss Phil Spencer recently emphasized that his company wants to make games available to as many players as possible, regardless of the platform. He therefore criticizes Sony's exclusive title strategy. For the Xbox Series X, therefore, there will be no purely exclusive titles that are not also available on the Xbox One. But for many Xbox fans this may mean that there is no real reason to buy the console. You can not only continue to play new games on your Xbox One, many of them now also on your PC.
Microsoft's focus is therefore not only on the Xbox Series X but on the large gaming ecosystem that is created on many different platforms through the Xbox Game Pass , xCloud and Smart Delivery . Apparently the only selling point for the new Xbox is that it will be more powerful than the PS5. For Steam boss Gabe Newell that would at least be reason enough - he recently spoke out clearly in favor of Microsoft's console. But according to the survey results, that is probably not enough for many other gamers. How this will ultimately affect sales figures remains to be seen.
