Schoolgirls with masks in Kiel: Back to the board and lectern
Photo: Gregor Fischer / dpaAt the beginning of the new school year, many teachers in several federal states have to teach who were previously allowed to stay in the home office because they belonged to the corona risk group. In Schleswig-Holstein, according to the Ministry of Education, only 100 of the approximately 28,000 teachers in the state are allowed to stay at home, which corresponds to a rate of around 0.4 percent.
Education Minister Karin Prien (CDU) was recently criticized because many teachers have to go back to school despite a doctor's certificate. A total of 2000 applications for exemption from the compulsory attendance were received there. The Minister of Education Karin Prien from Kiel knows the feeling when a political storm breaks out. In March, the CDU woman suggested that the Abitur be canceled due to Corona. The colleagues in the countries raged. "Going it alone on this important question" is unreasonable, scolded Hamburg's school senator Ties Rabe (SPD).
It was exactly one day before Prien rowed back and cashed in on her plans. The final exams took place in Schleswig-Holstein.
Now Prien is threatened with the next storm. The northern politician has recently been at odds with her own people. She is hard-hearted, complain the teacher representatives. The "Bild" newspaper calls her "Germany's toughest school minister". But this time it doesn't look like Prien will give in.
