White has become the favorite color of opponents of President Lukashenko. Dozens of women in white dresses or shirts formed human chains in Minsk and other cities across the country to denounce police repression aimed at protests against the re-election of Lukashenko, in power for 26 years.
In the historic center of Minsk on Nemiga Street, 100 people gathered, the women often dressed in white holding flowers, hearts or signs in their hands.
This form of mobilization, launched on Wednesday by dozens of women dressed in white, has so far not triggered violent repression such as that targeting the nocturnal demonstrations. The protests, harshly suppressed by the state security apparatus, resulted in at least one death, dozens injured and more than 3,000 arrests.
