The cases of migrants in distress at sea are increasing on the English Channel (archive image)

The group was located about 13 kilometers north of the French town of Sangatte near Calais and was picked up by a navy patrol boat. On the way back, the patrol rescued nine other migrants from a rubber dinghy with a defective engine.
Johnson increases pressure on France
The crew of a yacht also made the French authorities aware of another migrant boat in distress. With the help of a lifeboat, 13 people were then brought to safety, including three children and a pregnant woman.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had only increased pressure on France on Monday to combat illegal immigration across the English Channel. In July alone, more than 1,000 people tried to cross the inlet between France and Great Britain. The risk is considered high because the English Channel is used by many large ships.
