(ANSA) - BEIRUT, AUGUST 15 - The number three of American diplomacy, David Hale, has called for a "transparent and incredible" investigation into the explosion on August 4 in the port of Beirut, while some FBI investigators are reaching Lebanon to assist local authorities.
"We need to make sure there is a thorough, transparent and credible investigation," Hale said of the site of the explosion, which killed 177 people and injured thousands, following a visit to the devastated city. Hale said agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation would arrive over the weekend at the invitation of the Lebanese authorities and help determine "what led to the circumstances of this explosion."
