Crime: Covid effect, 18% offenses fall in one year

Computer crimes go against the trend (+ 20%). 20 million people checked, 450 thousand reported. Road accidents, deaths down 23%. Migrants: + 148% arrivals in twelve months, many autonomous landings. Minister Lamorgese, Monday in Tunisia with Di Maio (ANSA)


In one year, 18.2% decrease in crimes: from 2,338,073 in the period 1 August 2018 - 31 July 2019 to 1,912,344 recorded from 1 August 2019 to 31 July this year. A decline attributable to the lockdown for Covid.
    These are the data provided by the Interior Ministry on the occasion of the press conference of the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese on August 15th.
    The decrease concerned almost all types of crime: from homicides (-16.8%) to robberies (-21.1%), from thefts (-26.6%) to scams (-11.3%). Computer crimes go against the trend (+ 20%). The Interior Ministry also highlights that 70% of the 149 homicides committed within the family had women as victims; a share that rose to 75.9% during the lockdown period. 

Strong growth in arrivals of migrants in the last year: there are 21,618 between 1 August 2019 and 31 July 2020 against 8,691 in the period 1 August 2018 - 31 July 2019 (+ 148.7%). These are the figures released by the Interior Ministry on the occasion of the traditional press conference of the Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese. Unaccompanied minors disembarked were 2,886 (+ 157.9%). The majority of migrants arrived with autonomous landings (16,347), while those rescued in the Italian SAR area were 5,271 (4,066 recovered by NGO ships). Tunisia (8,984) and Libya (8,746) the main countries of departure. Tunisians (34.3%) and Bengalis (11.9%) the most numerous of the landed.

There are 20 million and 395 thousand people controlled by the police from 11 March, when the prescriptions to contain the spread of Coronavirus began, to 31 July: 460 thousand reported (equal to 2.2% of the controlled), the overwhelming majority for not respecting the travel bans, 5,684 for false attestations and 1,177 for violating the quarantine. These are the data released by the Interior Ministry on the occasion of the traditional press conference of August 15th of the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese. In the same period, 6.7 million commercial activities were also controlled: 10,751 owners reported, 2,112 closure orders.

The lockdown for Covid also affected road accidents: from 1 August 2019 to 31 July of this year, 58,475 were recorded (20% less than in the period 1 August 2018 - 31 July 2019), with 1,319 deaths against 1,719 in the previous year (-23.3%) and 37,241 injured (-22.6%). These are the data released by the Interior Ministry on the occasion of the traditional press conference of August 15th by the Minister of the Interior, Luciana Lamorgese.

"On Monday 17 August I will go to Tunisia with the Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio and with the European Commissioners Oliver Varhelyi and Ylva Johansson to make Europe feel close to us" and tackle the problem of small landings. This was stated by the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese at the end of the National Committee for public order and safety which was held today in Milan. The minister recalled that repatriations have started again as in the time for Covid, about 80 a day.

"Milan is a safe city. Among other things, today we heard the news of the two young men arrested for the robbery of taxi drivers". This was stated by the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese at the end of the National Committee for public order and safety which was held today in Milan. The minister recalled that there are 11,000 law enforcement officers in Milan.
