(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 15 - Crimes decreased by 18.2% in one year: from 2,338,073 in the period 1 August 2018 - 31 July 2019 to 1,912,344 recorded from 1 August 2019 to 31 July of this year. A decline attributable to the lockdown for Covid.
These are the data provided by the Interior Ministry on the occasion of the press conference of August 15th by the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese.
The decrease concerned almost all types of crime: from homicides (-16.8%) to robberies (-21.1%), from thefts (-26.6%) to scams (-11.3%). Computer crimes go against the trend (+ 20%). The Interior Ministry also highlights that 70% of the 149 homicides committed in the family environment had women as victims; a share that rose to 75.9% during the lockdown period. (HANDLE).
