Filmmaker Nolan 2017: "Good at surviving crises"
Photo: Gavin Bond / AUGUSTThe British Christopher Nolan, 50, is one of the most successful directors in Hollywood. His films - including "Batman Begins" (2005), "Inception" (2010) and "Dunkirk" (2017) - grossed a total of four and a half billion dollars. His stories are often complex, enigmatic mind games, which is why he is considered one of the few filmmakers who shoot intellectual blockbusters.
With his new film "Tenet", which allegedly cost more than 200 million dollars, he fulfilled his long-cherished dream of making some kind of James Bond thriller. Nolan's super agent, who is supposed to save the world from ruin in "Tenet" and has to fight a Russian oligarch, is black; he is played by the American John David Washington.
"Tenet" was originally supposed to start on July 17th, but at that time most of the movie theaters were closed due to the corona pandemic. Nolan campaigned for the film to hit theaters this summer. Many Hollywood studios have postponed their potential blockbusters until next year or are foregoing a screen launch altogether and are releasing them on video or streaming platforms.
