There are now also corona tests * for home use. The drugstore chain dm in Austria added such a product to its online range - and removed it again shortly afterwards. The Federal Office for Health Safety (BASG) in Vienna had found deficiencies , as the Austrian newspaper Kurier first reported.
Inadequate corona tests in the dm range
It was a PCR test from the manufacturer Novogenia . A throat swab is required for such a rapid test . The corona test was only sold by mail order so that infected people could not infect other people. The way it works is as follows: Customers take a saliva sample with the supplied cotton swab , which they then send to a laboratory in a specially made container . You should be informed of the test result by email within 72 hours. Cost: 119 euros plus 10 euros postage for the transport of medical goods .

Large drugstore chain takes corona test out of offer - Federal Office with complaint
The catch on the Corona rapid test offered by the dm drugstores: The packaging read "officially recognized" . The BASG found that customers could be misled by this statement . According to the courier , Novogenia has withdrawn the criticized PCR tests and now wants to examine the allegations. There is therefore no replacement for customers who have already used one of their tests. The reason given by a dm spokesman: The complaint only concerns the labeling, not the quality of the product. "We hope that the tests will be available again in the web shop in a few days."
Defects in corona tests in drugstore: Another case at Rewe drugstore
As the Portal Chip has since learned, the manufacturer Lead Horizon provided the packaging of its Corona rapid test with a similar statement - here too, a complaint from the BASG followed.
