(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 15 - The US Secretary of State MikePompeo has signed a defense agreement with Poland which provides for the deployment of a contingent of 5,500 US soldiers, at least one thousand of which US transferred from Germany which add to the more than 4,000 already room in Polish territory.
A contingent that can reach 20,000 if an emergency arises.
The agreement was signed in Warsaw, where Pompeo staged a four-day diplomatic tour in Eastern Europe, with the Polish defense minister, Mariusz Blaszczak. The agreement goes under the name of Enhanced Defense Co-operation Agreement (Edca).
"This is a strong guarantee, the guarantee that in case our soldiers decrease our soldiers will be side by side", commented the Polish president, Andrzej Duda, at the signing ceremony. (HANDLE).
