Alvar Aalto, the little house on the hill

Camped on its small hill, the house of the late Louis Carré once dominated the entire countryside. Years have passed and since then the vegetation has taken over, giving it a little more mystery. Once past the brick and copper gate, it appears at the bend of a large bend, with its empty swimming pool below. With its oblique roof of 400 m2, the house following the slope of the land by an interweaving of volumes of perfect proportions was entirely designed outside and inside by Alvar Aalto. This mature work by the Finn - he was almost 60 years old when he made it - is a model of architecture from the 1950s. And it deserves a detour because it is the only testimony on French soil of this "magician of the North" (nickname given by the critic Sigfried Giedion!) that the Parisian public rediscovered at the Cité de l'Architecture exhibition two years ago.
