The death of a first resident, announced Monday, was unfortunately not the last. Almost a week after the containment of 84 elderly people due to the Covid-19 epidemic, the Pulnoy nursing home (Meurthe-et-Moselle) made public this Sunday, to France Bleu, the death of eight others elderly within it.
"Among the nine, five had comorbid factors," the management of the establishment, until then spared by the new coronavirus, told the local radio station. At the start of the week, 29 cases of Covid-19 had been identified at the Sablons nursing home among the residents and five among the staff.
The first case was spotted ten days ago after the onset of symptoms in a nursing home resident. All residents and employees were then tested and then, once the results were returned, the establishment was reconfigured. Now, meals are taken in the room, cleaning has been stepped up, entertainment has been suspended, while visits and outside interventions are prohibited.
At the last count of the Directorate General of Health (DGS), 10,505 deaths have occurred in social and medico-social establishments, such as nursing homes, since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic.
