(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 16 - Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to "assist", if necessary, Belarus "according to the common military pact": this was revealed by the Kremlin, quoted by some media including the BBC, after a second conversation between Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, grappled with a wave of protests. The Kremlin claims to have discussed with Lukashenko "the situation in Belarus, taking into account the pressure that the republic is undergoing from outside".
