After a largely calm Sunday, severe thunderstorms from France hit us the next night. They bring rain, hailstones up to three centimeters in size and sometimes strong squalls to people who live in a wide strip of land from the East Frisian islands to southeast Bavaria. This was announced by the German Weather Service (DWD).

In some places you have to reckon with wet cellars and flooded streets. In the night from Friday to Saturday, the fire brigade had already deployed hundreds of times in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia because the storm had washed up manhole covers, knocked down trees and filled cellars.

On Monday, only the northeast and east face another hot day with up to 32 degrees. In the other regions, showers and thunderstorms provide cooling. According to the DWD, only 23 to 27 degrees are usually reached there.

In the coming days it will be changeable with individual showers and thunderstorms with maximum values between 22 and 28 degrees. The nights are generally much fresher with lows between 17 and 11 degrees. "Then we can finally ventilate the apartment properly again and cool down the apartment," said DWD meteorologist Marcel Schmid.

The next warming is already on the horizon for Friday. How strong this is, however, is not yet clear, it said.
