Around 18 years after the murder of Run DMC member Jason Mizell, aka Jam Master Jay, two suspects have been arrested and charged. The "New York Times" and the AP news agency report unanimously.

According to the AP, unnamed investigators said the suspects were Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan.

Washington was therefore a confidante of Mizell. He is said to have slept on a couch for several days before his death and was already traded as a possible suspect or witness in 2007. Now he is accused of offering protection to the shooter. He is currently serving a prison sentence, according to the AP.

Jordan is charged with the murder of Mizell. According to the New York Times, he was arrested on Sunday.

Hip-hop trio broke up after Mizell's death

The then 37-year-old Mizell was shot dead by a masked man in his recording studio in the New York borough of Queens in 2002, according to police reports at the time. He left a wife and three children.

The murder is considered one of the most famous unsolved criminal cases in New York. Mizell was part of the now legendary hip-hop formation Run DMC, which became world famous in the 1980s.

The band, which also included Joseph "Run" Simmons and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 after hits like "King of Rock", "Walk This Way" and "It's Like This" recorded - as the second hip-hop group after Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. After Mizell's death, the trio broke up.
