(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 18 - A modern fable, an animal fantasy, an ode to resilience, solidarity, respect for nature and animals, declined for an audience of all ages trahumour and moments of emotion. He is The Only and Insuperable Ivan, a successful mix of live action and cgi, signed by Thea Sharrock with a cast of original voices and interpreters in the flesh full of stars and Oscar Awards, such as Sam Rockwell, Angelina Jolie (also co-producer), Helen Mirren, Danny DeVito, BryanCranston and Chaka Khan, who after the Italian debut at the GiffoniFilm Festival on August 18th, will be exclusively on Disney + from September 11th. It is one of the Disney productions (together with the others in Mulan, expected from 4 September) for which, in the months of pandemic, the debut in cinemas is 'missed' for a direct release on the platform.
The film, which has among the Italian voice actors, Paola Minaccioni, Federico Cesari and Stefano Fresi, is an adaptation from the homonymous world bestseller for children by Katherine Applegate (for which he won the Newbery Medal in 2013 as author of the best American children's book of the year), published in Italy by Mondadori. At the base there is a true story: of Ivan, an imposing silverback gorilla who after having spent 27 years as an attraction in a department store in Tacoma, Washington, thanks to a popular and media mobilization in the early 90s, had found a new home. The tone of poetry and humor of Katherine Applegate's story is effectively captured by Thea Sharrock, in a film where the animals were recreated with motion capture and digital effects. We meet Ivan (Rockwell) star of the small zoo / circus in the mall, set up by its owner, Mack (Cranston). The gorilla shares the days with other animals in captivity and not including the wise elephant Stella (Jolie) and the best friend, Bob (DeVito) stray dog who has seen so many. The group, to which the elephantine Ruby (Brooklynn Prince) is added a new attraction, will find the courage, after a trauma, for a new beginning. (HANDLE).
