Munich - With the outbreak of the  corona pandemic *  at the beginning of the year, everyday life for everyone around the world changed. This also had an impact in Germany, particularly on the consumer behavior of the population in this country.

At times, toilet paper, disinfectants, soap and disposable gloves were almost sold out all over the republic. Although the situation has calmed down again in this regard, the drugstores and supermarkets have adjusted their offerings to the changed demand situation and increased hygiene articles significantly.

As before, strict hygiene rules must be observed in Germany as in other countries in  order to contain the further spread of the coronavirus * . After breathing masks and the like, Aldi Süd * , which also introduced a radical traffic light measure in its branches, is now offering another product in the fight against the malicious virus.

Curious Aldi product: This device is supposed to clean smartphones from corona viruses

Since the beginning of the week, customers have been able to find an ozone sterilizer for smartphones on the shelves of the discounter at a price of 19.99 euros. The device sterilized according to the description in the current Aldi * -Prospekt surfaces of smartphones and should according to the manufacturer eliminate "up to 99.9% of most bacteria and viruses" .

But the Aldi Süd device should not only be suitable for cleaning your own smartphone. Also jewelry, keys and similar small items that you often hold in your hands every day should be cleared of viruses.

Some customers will now wonder how it all works. The cleaning process of the product makes use of the capabilities of ozone gas. Among other things, this has the ability to disinfect surfaces and neutralize odors.

The ozone sterilizer puts the oxygen in the air under an electrical charge, which then reacts and becomes ozone. Then there is the next chemical reaction, because the resulting gas combines with odor molecules, bacteria and viruses.

😷 The current #Aldi Süd prospectus shows that you can buy an ozone sterilizer for cell phones from August 17th, which cleans the device 99.9% from bacteria and germs.

New Aldi product: Not all ozone devices are harmless to health

However, ozone cannot kill viruses or literally remove them. However, the process described can theoretically change the DNA structure of the virus in such a way that it ultimately becomes harmless to the human cell.

However, there are health concerns about ozone devices . They are actually only used for the professional cleaning of entire houses or cars. Ozone can act like a strong breath poison in larger concentrations and was therefore classified as carcinogenic as early as 1995 . With the Aldi product, however, this risk should not exist; only products with a harmless amount of ozone produced are approved for retail.
