(ANSA) - ROME, AUGUST 19 - At least 45 migrants died in a shipwreck that took place off the coast of Libya, "the worst this year": the International Organization for Migration (IOM) states in a tweet in which together with the UNHCravverte : "Without a dedicated rescue operation and an EU-led landing mechanism, more lives will be lost in the Mediterranean." The shipwreck would have occurred on August 17. About 37 survivors, mainly from Senegal, Mali, Chad and Ghana - the agencies specify - were rescued by local fishermen and placed in detention after landing.
