It is likely that at some point, probably even much more than once, you heard someone older than you say the sentence: "In my time, we played outside the house all the time."

The truth? That person may be exaggerating a bit, but by and large he is absolutely right. As the years passed, and the electronic and digital devices became more sophisticated, we went and gathered inside, into the house and today we can do almost anything in the world (prepare food, order delivery, play with friends, chat "face to face with people and more" without opening the door. Not gathered in the closed space of our home, we probably do it in the office where we spend long

hours. The modern world has certainly improved our quality of life in many ways, but also harmed us in other ways and most importantly, our health.Because even if it is hard for us to believe it is Or get used to this thought, after all, our home, the place where we are supposed to feel most secure, is also the place that can harm us.

Because as we closed ourselves more and more inside, we also closed with us the outside world, with its healthy and pure air. Not for nothing, studies have shown that the air in the house is not as clean as we thought and in fact, polluted up to five times more often than the air outside and as we breathe and exhale it again and again and it remains recycled inside the house, we only aggravate the situation. The "dirty" air of the home and our prolonged stay in enclosed spaces daily cause many different health problems, including allergies, chronic fatigue, impaired vision, asthma and in some cases even beyond - diseases that can prove fatal.

So what can be done to make the air in your home cleaner and healthier and avoid the "sick building syndrome" that is true for both homes and office buildings and causes many to have bad and disturbing feelings and even illness? Here are some things to keep in mind:

Use products made from natural materials

Here is a term you want to know - VOC, short for Volatile organic compound or in Hebrew, volatile organic compounds. It sounds threatening and it may indeed be so. These are chemicals with a high vapor pressure, which results from a low boiling point and causes many molecules of the compound to leave it (whether it is in a liquid or solid) and integrate with the surrounding air.

Volatile organic compounds are of great importance for the existence of plants and their relationship with animals, but prolonged exposure to different types of compounds can be very dangerous to humans and cause various diseases and allergies. Among other things, one of the substances to which exposure can be dangerous is methanol, which evaporates from paint (after painting the walls of the house, for example).

If so, what is the solution? Use of products from natural materials. The benefits of natural ingredients are becoming clearer over time and they have become a global trend in many fields, including foods, skin and body care products and also, various ingredients for home use. These products do not contain VOC and therefore, even prolonged exposure to them will not harm us and will leave the air in a clean and healthy home.

Open windows

"Open a window, epic soul, let the wind come in, let the outside intervene inside / open a window, without feeling, the breath gets a little heavy"

Rami Kleinstein wrote, the great Rita sang and we only had to agree with them. Open windows. True, the air conditioner is pleasant and pampering, especially in the Israeli heat that sometimes really becomes unbearable. You do not have to live with the window open and the air conditioner off, just remember to ventilate the rooms of the house every so often, so that the outside intervenes inside and the breathing does not become a little heavy without you feeling it.

The air conditioner not only pollutes the air outside, but can also create a problem in the house if it is not operated properly and the filters that accumulate all the polluted air are cleaned. As mentioned, the air outside is much cleaner and better than the air in the rooms where you sit, so from time to time, remember to not only take care of your air conditioner, but also let it rest and breathe fresh air.

Clean mold from the walls as soon as possible

Mold has three main problems: it causes a bad smell in the house, the wall looks very unattractive because of it and worst of all, it is a real health hazard. It should not be allowed to stay on the wall even for one unnecessary moment, because it produces spores that penetrate our respiratory system and cause serious problems like weakness, asthma, infections and more. The problem is also that the mold spreads if we do not treat it, and then the struggle becomes even more complicated.

Usually, mold (which is actually a fungus that grows on the wall) is formed as a result of moisture or dampness. Therefore, the first move you want to make, as written earlier, is to ventilate the rooms of the house and put clean air in them from the outside. In closed rooms, humidity rises and the situation can become dangerous.

There are different levels of mold and some of them you can definitely take care of yourself, with the help of sprays (then it is even more important to ventilate the room!). Sometimes there will be no choice but to call in a professional, who can finally destroy the mold. In any case, do not be hesitant in this case.

Bring natural light into the room

The further north we are in the house, the more we not only breathe its polluted air, but are also affected by the unnatural light in which we live - lamps or smartphones are an integral part of our daily lives and it is important to combine them with natural light coming from outside.

Already when planning the house it is very important to think about where the light comes from and how it will be possible to make it find its way to all the rooms of the house. It is not only healthy for us, but also raises the mood and lowers the depression that a stay in a closed and darker space can cause. Sunlight provides energy, revives vegetation in the home and of course, can also help us reduce electricity expenses on lighting or heating elements.

If these days you are part of the masses who have moved to work from home, it is important that you determine your work position in the place where natural light reaches. Assuming you spend a good few hours in the same space, in front of a computer for the most part, it is highly recommended that you do not stay in it just by the light of the lamp.

Think carefully about the air directions in the house

Imagine a huge apartment with 20 windows, in which all the windows face one direction. Now imagine a modest apartment, with three windows, but each of the windows faces in a different direction. Assuming you did open these windows to ventilate the house - in which apartment do you think the air will be cleaner and healthier? The correct answer is the second apartment of course.

Even if a lot of air enters from those 20 windows, it will not equal the benefits of an apartment with three air directions, with the help of which you can better maneuver between heat and cold and between light and darkness in the apartment, as well as allow air to flow from side to side.

If so, as you have seen, there are quite a few ways to help you keep the air in your home clean. This is a topic of paramount importance, which affects your health every day and every moment you spend at home, whether you pay attention to it or not. Follow these five simple tips and you will find that you breathe air much better and feel great.
