The 64-year-old resident attacked the police with burning liquids and prepared incendiary devices, the city administration announced on Thursday.
According to the police, the attack in the apartment building occurred when the resident in the attic was resisting the city's coercive measures. Six people were injured, including the man himself, the city administration announced. The 64-year-old was arrested. He is said to have first attacked two employees of the municipal enforcement service and a 22-year-old firefighter. An employee of a private locksmith involved in the operation and a neighbor who had rushed to help were also injured.
"I am stunned by the attack on our law enforcement officers and the fire brigade," said Mayor Marc Weigel (Free Voters). "It was a planned, devious act that our city has never seen before." At the instigation of the Neustadt District Court, eviction should be carried out. The tenant has lived in the apartment since 2013 and has been in considerable arrears since 2019.
