Eleven packaged ice creams to sin with this summer

2020-08-21T07:19:37.478Z

When you do not have a good artisan ice cream parlor nearby, it is not a crime to give in to the charms of an industrial pole or tub. A group of wise and wise ice cream makers recommend us their favorites.

The chill in the teeth after biting a Calippo, the stiff neck that leaves wanting to take advantage of all the Magnum or the squirt on a Frigopie's shirt. Although industrial and sometimes extremely sugary, ice cream is part of our most common gastronomic sins in summer. Because who has their food convictions so firm as not to buy a tiny pot in August, of which you convince yourself that it is okay to eat it whole, from Häagen-Dazs? Let us recognize ourselves as sinners, brothers of a healthy diet, and let us sin from time to time on these dates, which we will later be able to make up for by confessing in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chard and Celery.

Because one thing is clear: in Spain the sinful devotees of the ice cream sect number in the thousands. In 2019 alone, a total of 136.05 million kilos of this product were consumed in this country, according to data collected by the Statista website. Of all this amount, 50.07% was eaten from July to September, as Statista also points out, which confirms that when the heat hits we don't even think about it: we jump headfirst into the tub.

In case you make a sweet tooth on these dates, we have made a compilation of the 11 most irresistible industrial ice creams. All, of course, following the recommendations of the priests and priestesses of the Santo Polo and Santa Cucharilla de Dessert congregation. They know for which it is worth showing us weak in the eyes of the green gods.

CLASSIC AND MODERN H ELDES

Creamy EVOO ice cream with toasted peanuts, by Sandro Desii

"Without discussion and with all the forcefulness in the world, those of Sandro Desii are the best industrial ice creams that I have tried, and the most similar to an artisan ice cream", affirms with emphatic comedian Mikel López Iturriaga. We started strong, of course. Mikel comments that he would recommend “practically all the creamy ones, with special mention of the chocolate ones, the pine nuts and the pistachio ones”, but this time he goes head to head for the extra virgin olive oil and toasted peanuts: “Not only is it a fantastic option for vegans or lactose intolerant, but it is just as delicious or more than dairy ice cream ".

Lulo Palette, Pure Fruit

From a bet on an unusual flavor in ice creams, we move on to another even more unusual: the one made with a lulo flavor by the Barcelona firm Pura Fruta. "The lulo -also known as' naranjilla'- is the unlikely son of a tangerine acid and a tomato: the first time you taste the fruit as it is, it leaves you completely crazy, because it has the texture of a green tomato and the taste of a very acidic mandarin ”, explains our editor-in- chief Mònica Escudero. On the pole of this fruit, Mònica comments that it is very good and that it maintains a lot of acidity. "Although they are large -they are round, South American-style lollipops with a glass mold- you are always tempted to eat a second one," he concludes. 30 seconds ago I had no idea what lulo was, now I want to order a box with 50 popsicles. Price : the pallet unit is sold for about € 1.20 in stores specialized in Latin food.

Maxibon de nata, by Nestlé

Radical change, now is one of the summer classics that we find in any kiosk with a striped awning: the Maxibon de nata. It is also recommended by Jordi Luque, who also proudly assures that he is “a true lover of industrial ice creams”. Nothing to hide, as you can see. “Of those eaten on the street, my favorite is undoubtedly the Maxibon de nata. I like to eat the chocolate dipped half first so that the cookie in the other half takes on moisture and becomes soft. That texture leaves me in industrial ecstasy ”, Jordi describes in detail while salivating like a lion when he sees a gazelle with a jerk on its leg. Price : in almost all the kiosks in Spain - because there will be some out there that do not fit - for less than two euros.

Vanilla cornetto, by Frigo

We continue in the ice cream classicism with the vanilla Cornettos. The old polo expert Òscar Broc, who recently published a post about these products, chooses the famous Frigo brand cones as the first of his choices: “A damn classic that never fails. I like its scent of a lie, its laboratory vanilla, cheap chocolate chips and that cookie hard like the iceberg that sank the Titanic ”, describes Òscar. It's hard to resist, really. And even more so when you see someone remove the entire metallic foil container full of that sweet mixture that is pure pheronomone for those with a sweet tooth. Price : the same as the Maxibon.

Mini intense dark 70% cocoa, by Magnum

There are also ice creams with a smaller format, so you don't have to pray a whole week to Santa Rúcula to atone for your sin. One of these is recommended by Mikel López Iturriaga: "I like them because of their size, with which you can not get caught, and because they are sweet but less cloying than other similar products." The leading foodie clarifies: "If you don't have an ice cream parlor at your fingertips and you forgive the misleading label -70% cocoa, nothing: the ice cream is milk chocolate-", the Magnum mini intense dark may be one more option or less acceptable ”. Now, better buy them at the supermarket, because I don't know how the kiosk will react when you say: "A Magnum mini intense dark 70% cocoa, please." Price : the pack of three mini ice creams at € 2.99 at Carrefour.

FROZEN IN TIME

Frozen lemons, from La Menorquina

Viejunismo in its purest form, but so what? Our supercommunity manager Patricia Tablado loves the industrial version of these ice cream classics, which Ana Vega Biscayenne taught us to make at home with this recipe. "It is to see it in a restaurant and I have no choice but to ask for it (I did not invent the rules)", says Patricia, who adds: "During the confinement, I discovered that now they are also sold at retail in supermarkets in packs of two So if you like them, you don't have to go through a whole meal in a restaurant because they are there in the fridge waiting for you ”. Ea, you no longer have excuses: let's see if together we can make this typical dessert of the 90's chiringuito fashionable again. Price : € 19.97 per box with six units on the brand's website.

Comtessa, by Frigo

Another great representative of old-fashioned frozen desserts. The Comtessa, like Hombres G, played it in the 80s but was losing prominence over the years. For a time they decided to call her Vienetta, although thank God -or Frigo-, she recently returned to her original name, to her usual name. Without a doubt, a product that brings memories to many people, as happens to the artisan ice cream maker Massimo Pignata: “It was my favorite ice cream among industrialists. I loved the creaminess of the cream and its contrast with the crunch of the chocolate. With my brother we ate one of the two at once! ”Recalls the owner of the prestigious DelaCrem ice cream parlor, located in Barcelona. Price : in large supermarket chains for approximately € 4.50 a half kilo Comtessa.

TARRINAS TO DEVOUR AT HOME WITHOUT MERCY

Häagen-Dazs Macadamia Nut Ice Cream Tub

"The truth is that I don't have a sweet tooth and I don't usually buy industrial ice cream, but when I get the junkie attack, I throw myself directly into the macadamia nut Häagen-Dazs," publicly acknowledges journalist and collaborator comidister David Remartínez. His is a temporary addiction fortunately, although no less dangerous for that: “I hit a belly, I feel dirty, I lick the patina of dodgy fat that these inventions of the devil leave to leverage you on the sofa, and I feel strangely dirty and happy at the same time ”, confesses David assuring that the last time was the last and that he controls. Price : the 460 ml tub costs € 6.29 at El Corte Inglés, for example.

Strawberry ice cream tub by Mövenpick

The fanatic of industrial ice cream Jordi Luque puts the strawberry from the Swiss company Mövenpick at number one on his personal list: “I place it at the top because it tastes like summer strawberry, it is creamy to the limit and it filters by artisan, which is the most beautiful thing you can say to an industrial ice cream ”, Jordi clarifies while ordering a two-ton tub. If he throws this compliment, which knows a lot about these products, it will have to be true. Price : the distributor in Spain of this product, Font Gastronòmic, confirms that it is sold outside the HORECA channel in two formats: 100 ml, with an approximate price of € 2.65; and the 500 ml, for € 6.95.

Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Cookie Dough Tubs

Two recommendations in one. On the one hand, Òscar Broc gobbles the chocolate and brownie "on sleepless nights." According to him, this Ben and Jerry's ice cream is “an avalanche of chocolate that doesn't let you breathe and, on top of that, it finishes you off with some pieces of brownie that look like meteorites. Worse than farlopa ”, Òscar asserts. On the other hand, Jordi Luque and his 9-year-old son, also fond of industrial tubs, who prefer Cookie Dough: “It's super mazacote, but what do you want, it has biscuit chips –soaked, too– and that. he loses me, ”says Jordi. They are not alone in this: at 40ºC and with five euros in our wallets, we have all been carried away by cold ice cream hedonism. Price : a 465 ml container costs € 5.95 for brownie and € 6.50 for cookies in supermarkets such as Carrefour.
