Protect guinea pigs from falling

The cuddly animals scurry around busily on the floor. Guinea pigs should stay there if possible. Because they find it difficult to orientate themselves on higher surfaces - and therefore easily fall down.

Guinea pigs should never be unobserved on tables, dressers or other tall furniture. You do not have good spatial vision and therefore cannot see steps and table edges. The Veterinary Association for Animal Welfare points this out.

For example, if a child has placed the guinea pig on the garden table to play and pet, the owners have to be careful: the little animal could fall down and seriously injure itself.

Since guinea pigs are flight animals, the field of vision is relatively wide thanks to the eyes arranged on the side, explain the experts. You can perceive the smallest movements in this way - on the other hand, there is a lack of spatial vision.
