They're not really popular: wasps sting, crazy about sweet food, and building wasp nests. If you want to remove the latter, you have to be careful.
Berlin (dpa / tmn) - Inhabited wasp nests on the house cannot just be removed - the animals finally sting. If the nest is in an unfavorable place, you should call a pest controller, advises the Naturschutzbund Deutschland (Nabu) in Berlin.
However, if you are not in such a hurry, you can wait for most animals to end their natural cycle when they die from the end of August. This process lasts until around the beginning of November in mild weather. Once the nest is empty, it can be disposed of safely.
But not every animal dies by autumn: the young queens of the wasp hive remain, overwinter and establish new wasp states in the following spring. The Nabu therefore advises that the place on the house where the current nest is located should be cleaned well after removal. Because wasps are based on smell. If this sticks, the young queens will be happy to settle there next year.
