Coronavirus in France: 15 new deaths, 1,955 cases in 24 hours

233 people have been admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health.


A few days before the start of the school year, the circulation of the coronavirus is accelerating and in particular among young adults. In a new report released on Monday, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) counted 1,955 new cases of Covid-19 contamination in 24 hours.

399 patients are currently hospitalized in an intensive care unit, including 43 admissions in 24 hours. Ile-de-France, Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur account for 68% of these serious cases.

22 new epidemic outbreaks were identified. In total, 1232 “clusters” have been formed since May 9, but 734 of them have since been “closed”.

“The increase in the positivity rate for RT-PCR tests continues. At the beginning of the summer, 1.4% of the tests were positive, against 3.6% between August 15 and 21, ”notes the DGS in this report. 755,342 tests were performed this week.

Since the start of the epidemic, 20,017 people have died in a hospital establishment and 10,511 deaths have occurred in social and medico-social establishments, such as nursing homes. In total, the epidemic has killed 30,528 people since the start of March.
