Are you throwing leftover fat or oil from the pan down the drain? You shouldn't do that - you can damage the pipes with it.
Oils and fats are indispensable in the household: They are needed for dressings, to sear meat in the pan * or to deep-fry food. But where do you put the remains? Or what happens to oils that have gone rancid?
This is why it is not a good idea to dump oils and fats down the drain
The simplest solution here seems to be to simply dispose of the leftover oil down the sink drain. Unfortunately, this practice will eventually fall on your feet. On the one hand, hot oil can melt plastic in the drain, on the other hand it also pollutes the sewage and can clog the pipes in the house. Even if the hot oil is initially liquid, it becomes hard in the pipes as soon as it cools down.
And since the fats are not water-soluble, they are not removed by constant rinsing, but rather settle on the pipe walls. A thick layer of grease can form, which completely seals the pipes within a few months. In addition, there is the food that is washed through the drain and can get stuck in the grease film - this will eventually lead to unpleasant smells in the kitchen.

Not down the drain: How are oils and fats properly disposed of?
Oil goes into the normal household waste - i.e. in the residual waste . Leftover oil in the pan is simply dabbed off with the kitchen paper and disposed of. First transfer larger quantities of oil into plastic or glass bottles - for example the ones in which they were purchased. However, the oil should be at room temperature. You also pack solid cooking fat and throw it into the residual waste bin.
Some foods are also sold in oil - for example fish or olives. This oil is easy to process into dressing . Alternatively, it can be disposed of with household waste. * Merkur.de is part of the nationwide Ippen-Digital editors network.
