Like every week, here are the favorite films of the editorial staff among the new releases. Two big pieces are tumbling in theaters this week. One comes to us from the United States, it is the blockbuster “Tenet”, an incredible film at the crossroads of espionage and science fiction that we have not finished hearing about. The other is “Erase History”, the meeting of the duo Benoît Delépine-Gustave Kervern with three unleashed actors, Blanche Gardin, Corinne Masiero and Denis Podalydès. ...

WE LOVE

"Clear history"

In a housing estate, three neighbors find themselves trapped by social networks: Marie is the victim of sex tape blackmail, Bertrand sees his daughter harassed in high school, and Christine, a VTC driver, only collects bad grades. Together, the trio will go to war against the giants of the web, as far as Mauritius and California ... Led by a trio of breathtaking actors (Blanche Gardin, Corinne Masiero and Denis Podalydès), this squeaky comedy is about overconsumption , over-indebtedness, fake news, the "uberization" of employment, social networks, and even yellow vests ...

Through sketches and hilarious lines, “Clear History” shows a rare sociological intelligence. And we are delighted with his brilliant supporting roles (Benoît Poelvoorde, Yolande Moreau, Vincent Lacoste, Michel Houellebecq, Bouli Lanners, Vincent Dedienne ...)

EDITOR'S RATING: 5/5

“Clear History”, a French comedy by Gustave Kervern and Benoît Delépine, with Blanche Gardin, Denis Podalydès, Corinne Masiero… 1h46.

"Tenet"

Secret agent within an elite unit, the Protagonist - yes, that's what he is called in the film, we will never know his name - is in charge, after a mission which he should have not to escape, from a mysterious case to say the least: to find who can put on the market a weapon from the future. Bullets for example, which are not satisfied with having traveled in time: they are "inverted", they appear in the weapon after the target has been aimed!

This film with a colossal budget of 200 million dollars, which leaves this Wednesday in France and other European countries well before the United States, constitutes a piece of bravery as one sees only one per year, at best. . It features crazy action scenes, including the first 20 minutes, a military intervention in an opera, which already set the bar very high. But “Tenet” also includes literally never-before-seen combat scenes, a completely new car chase, and a Dantesque warrior finale whose design refers to Stanley Kubrick's “Full metal jacket”, just that.

“Tenet” is also a tribute to James Bond spy movies, and a metaphysical reflection on time, an obsession with director Christopher Nolan. All this packed into a breathtaking 2h30.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4.5 / 5

"Tenet", an American spy film by Christopher Nolan, with John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Brannagh… 2h30.

WE LOVE A LOT

"In a garden that looks like eternal"

Zen, exotic, this is a film that feels good. “In a garden that looks like eternal” follows Noriko, a student who still lives with her parents and hesitates about which way to go to work in publishing. Her mother suggests that she learn the art of tea from a neighbor, Mrs. Takeda. Her cousin Michiko convinces her to accompany him there, and the two young women gradually discover the innumerable subtleties of the tea ceremony. At first a little reluctant, they get caught up in the game as the seasons and years go by, and Ms. Takeda's teachings help them cope with major events in their lives. “In a Garden That Looks Eternal” is the perfect film to escape the anxieties of the present day.

EDITOR'S RATING: 4/5

“In a Garden that looks like eternal”, Japanese drama by Tatsushi Omori, with Kirin Kiki, Haru Kuroki, Mikako Tabe… 1h40.

WE ALSO LIKE

"Spycia"

Following an operation that was too hectic, Vladimir the cat, a competent but uncontrollable secret agent, was placarded on a platform located in the East Sea. There, he is forced to team up with Hector the rat, a cannonball who spends his time eating pizzas while watching a cutesy soap opera. But very quickly, the tandem must take action: they will pursue mysterious thieves of "radiésite", a substance which, by freezing animals, threatens the entire planet ...

We do not have time to be bored with this story which multiplies the twists and turns around a very ecological plot, where it is about endangered species and global warming. Like this scenario, the graphics of "Spycies" are thick, sometimes a little too much, especially during combat scenes. But we have fun with his many gags and his funny characters.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3/5

"Spycies", Chinese and French animated film by Guillaume Ivernel. 1h30.
