Bali closes to foreigners until the end of 2020 - Bali rethinks it and closes to foreign tourists until the end of 2020. At first, the authorities of the Indonesian island, a popular tourist destination, had announced the return of foreigners starting next month. But the plan was revised amid growing concerns over Covid-19 in Indonesia. To date, 4,576 cases and 52 deaths have been recorded. The decision renews fears of the impact on residents in a country where the economy is mainly based on tourism. Every year millions of foreigners fly to Bali attracted by the deserted beaches and Hindu temples. But their numbers have drastically decreased since Indonesia closed borders to non-residents like several other countries struggling with the pandemic. Since the end of July the island has turned to domestic visitors to help tourism, the heart of the local economy, by reopening beaches, temples and other landmarks for local travelers. But many restaurateurs and hotels struggle to get back into business.
