More than 200 firefighters, with the help of fire hydrants and helicopters, continued this Tuesday afternoon working to combat two large sources of forest fires that continue to destroy mountains and pastures in the vicinity of the Cordovan towns of La Calera, Cosquín and Capilla del Mountain. Authorities reported that there are four detainees suspected of starting fires.

The flames that cover the northern area of the Punilla Valley from Capilla del Monte to the Cruz del Eje side are the continuation of the fires that began more than a week ago in the Ischillín department, and which, due to the action of the wind, reached the area, where Sunday was the most dramatic day when at least seven houses were burned.

The specialists assure that it will take a long time to recover the flora and fauna affected by the fires, which, according to the director of Civil Defense, Diego Concha, "are the largest in the last 12 years . "

The other outbreak, the one that descends from the Pan de Azúcar hill towards the town of La Calera, San Fernando and the Casabamba area, would have been initiated by the hand of man , and four people were arrested for this situation. Two of them are minors.

The other two arrested are a 59-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, who were left at the disposal of the Cosquín Prosecutor's Office, in charge of Paula Klem.

Meanwhile, the provincial government set up an Operations Base to attend to the contingency (in Colonia IOSE Cosquín), where the ministers of Social Development, Juan Carlos Massei, and of Security, Alfonso Mosquera, met together with the undersecretary of Risk Management and Civil Protection of the Nation, Gabriel Gasparutti.

After his arrival in Cosquín, Gasparutti explained to the press that four fire hydrant planes and a helicopter from the Federal Police joined the operation .

For his part, on Monday President Alberto Fernández contacted Governor Juan Schiaretti to make the Nation's resources available, explained the provincial president himself.

"Based on the analysis we do here with the people of the Emergency Committee, we will evaluate the possibility of obtaining other resources that may be available," Gasparutti said, explaining that they will stay until the emergency ends.

The good news amid the devastating fires comes with the weather. The National Weather Service anticipates strong storms for different parts of Córdoba for the night of this Tuesday . The current alert indicates that rainfall could accumulate up to 50 millimeters, acquiring severe characteristics over the southeast province.

Between the night and the early hours of this Tuesday the Highway Police made roadblocks in the northern sector of Punilla on RN 38 at the height of Capilla del Monte, as well as on the José Manuel De la Sota bridge, near the Commune San Roque, in both cases due to the low visibility caused by the smoke, which could also be seen in the provincial capital.

"The focus that is in the Los Terrones area continues to be very active and that, at the moment, is heading towards the Uritorco hill and Ojo de Agua," Concha said this morning to the local media.

The official added that they worked until dawn in the Tramontana area where a confectionery and three homes had to be protected .

In addition, "it was necessary to evacuate people from El Faldeo and carry out technical work in the sector called San Salvador, in the direction of Ojo de Agua, because the concern was that the fire would cross again towards national route 38", at the same time that He clarified that there are still more than 100 evacuees since Sunday.
