Managers and members of the medical staff treating corona patients in Israel issued a statement today (Tuesday) expressing their opposition to the departure of thousands of Israelis to Uman in Ukraine to mark Rosh Hashanah at Rabbi Nachman's grave in the city: "This is a matter of mental supervision."

Dozens of signatories to the letter wrote in it that they strongly oppose the trip, which is expected to be attended by thousands of Israelis, which they say will lead to a significant increase in patients in critical condition a month later. "Any public activity that could increase the burden of morbidity and further burden our tireless work in hospitals, which are already wearily laden with patients, is unnecessary and could cost human lives, as well as tighten restrictions and add to already significant unemployment."

The teams wrote that they were doing their job "wholeheartedly with the clear aim of providing the best care for patients with such complex corona disease", and that it was "unlikely that we as a company would all pay the price when one audience or another decides to go against medical logic".

The letter also mentions that every person in Israel sacrifices himself on a variety of occasions, such as having a small wedding or having funerals, "to save unnecessary loss of life, to reduce the burden on patients" and so that the medical staff can provide patients with the best care.

They called for preventing "irresponsible" mass events of any kind in order to prevent the risk to the lives of their participants and those around them. "We work out of a sense of mission knowing that everyone is doing their best to ensure that they are not infected, infected and no longer burdened by hospitals and medical staff," it read. "The followers of health call on the followers of Breslav: Stay in the land!"

Ukrainian media reported today that President Vladimir Zlinsky has decided to significantly limit the number of Hasidim allowed to visit Uman to mark Rosh Hashanah at Rabbi Nachman's grave. According to reports, Zlinsky said the decision was made at the request of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It was further reported that Zlinsky did not provide explanations as to the extent of the restriction and who would be allowed to visit the city during the holiday.

Netanyahu denied that he had asked the Ukrainians to limit the number of people coming to Uman. A statement from him said: "The Prime Minister and the President have urged not to go to Uman due to the state of the disease, but noted and stressed that whoever decides to go to Uman must be careful and maintain health guidelines."

Meanwhile, due to the lab workers' strike that will begin this coming Sunday, no corona tests will be performed in the hospitals but only laboratory tests for cancer patients for the purpose of providing treatments and for couples receiving fertility treatments. The strike is indefinite and includes medical laboratories in hospitals, the community as well as the public health laboratories of the Ministry of Health. Laboratory workers go out to fight for their status, workloads and employment conditions.
