Evers had previously arranged to increase the presence of the National Guard in Kenosha. He was accused of not reacting vigorously to looting and arson.
"We cannot allow the cycle of structural racism and injustice to continue," said Evers. "However, we cannot go any further on this path of damage and destruction."
Several shots in the back of the black American Jacob Blake during a police operation had triggered horror and protest in Wisconsin: According to consistent reports in the US media, two police officers pointed their guns at the man on Sunday and fired at least seven shots at him when he was in his car rose. There are also video recordings on the Internet. According to official information, the man is in serious condition. Protests against racism and police violence as well as riots ensued in the city of Kenosha.
Many in the US see the controversial deployment as the latest example of racism and police violence in the US. Since the end of May, there have been mass protests in many places, triggered by the death of the unarmed African American George Floyd after a brutal police operation in the city of Minneapolis in the state of Minnesota. The debate also plays a central role in the US election campaign.
