A German discounter banned Haribo from its range. The bandages in the retail trade are tough - even when it comes to popular food classics: the gold bears are too expensive.

A German discounter banned Haribo from its range. The bandages in the retail trade are tough - even when it comes to popular food classics: the gold bears are too expensive.

  • A dispute over conditions rages between Haribo and some retailers.
  • The popular fruit gum manufacturer has increased its prices.
  • The discount giant Lidl does not see this - and is now taking the gold bears out of the range.

Go to Lidl and buy a packet of gold bears - this will probably no longer be possible for customers of the discount chain in the future. Just could Haribo fans still have luck, because lying in the Lidl branches currently Remnants sporadically the Fruchtgrummi manufacturer from. But buying Haribo products at Lidl will soon be a thing of the past.

Background of relentless dispute between Lidl and Haribo is, according to "The Food Newspaper," a condition dispute - and not just with Lidl lie Haribo in the clinch, but also with other German retailers. Many of them would not just want to put up with the long-established company's price increase . Lidl is now the first among them to take the consequences - discount competition Aldi *, on the other hand, still sticks to Haribo.

Haribo no longer makes Lidl happy: Tough price war in retail

A case that shows once again how hard the price war is really raging behind the scenes in the food retail sector. As Stern.de reports, Haribo has not been supplying Lidl since the beginning of July - this is now also noticeable with the customer a few weeks later. The fruit gum shelf at Lidl is only refilled with its own brand Sugarland , as well as products from Haribo competitor Katjes .

A 360-gram pack of gold bears at Lidl recently cost 1.29 euros - around 10 cents more than before. A price increase on the part of Haribo, with which the discount giant apparently no longer wants to live. Lidl has therefore stopped reorders from the traditional German company Haribo - while its competitor Aldi * is currently advertising the popular Haribo products in a particularly striking way.

Haribo does not publicly comment on the dispute with Lidl , but admits that they are currently "in tough price negotiations with retailers". "Temporary delistings are a well-known tactical means to increase the pressure on suppliers," reported the gold bear manufacturer "Der Lebensmittelzeitung". As a result of the coronavirus pandemic , raw material prices would have increased, which Haribo cites as the reason for the recent price increase.
