The Buenos Aires legislator of the Frente de Todos Ofelia Fernández was discriminated against and insulted through Zoom in a talk with students from the Torcuato Di Tella University.
After analyzing various current affairs, students who participated in the virtual meeting opened their microphones and said: "Fat, donate your salary."
From the environment of the legislator they minimized the incident and emphasized that the talk in general developed without problems.
The talk, entitled "Activity and political militancy", was a record for participation in virtual meetings at the Di Tella University, according to the institution. Some 450 people participated and due to the great call it had to be closed.
We thank @OfeFernandez_ for his time and great disposition. Ofelia told us about her career in political life and about the obstacles that young people and women face in this field. Without a doubt a very interesting talk 👏🏼 https://t.co/p8D03icEeT
- UTDT Politics Club (@clubpolditella) August 25, 2020During the event, students could ask questions in writing and a moderator from the university would pass them on to Fernández. Although the videoconference initially went smoothly, one participant activated the microphone and yelled, "Fat, donate your salary."
According to people who participated in the talk, from that moment other students joined in shouting for her to donate her salary as a legislator.
"They asked him if he was going to study something and what he thought about judicial reform, for example. He also spoke about the increase in femicides in the country and the disappearance of Facundo Castro," Ana, a student of International Relations, told the TN portal.
"She was saying that you have to be in solidarity and several began to tell her to donate her salary, to which she answered that she does, " said a Di Tella student.
The institution's Student Policy Club thanked the legislator for participating in the talk and apologized for what happened. “We want to apologize on behalf of the Club for the inconveniences that arose. In no way do they represent the values of respect, tolerance and pluralism shared by the Club and the University ”, they indicated.
