For the third time: The "traffic light model" formulated by the corona commissioner, Prof. Roni Gamzo, will be brought for approval by the corona cabinet. The outline, which maps the red, orange and green cities across the country, is designed to help curb the spread of the virus, while imposing restrictions on areas where high morbidity data have been recorded. The hearing takes place shortly before the start of the school year, on September 1, and according to the Corona Commissioner, it is not recommended to return students to schools in cities classified as red.

The Ministry of Health is considering several options for imposing restrictions in the red cities, including not opening the school year or closing in a "curfew" format of leaving up to 500 meters from home.

This morning, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz met with Prof. Gamzo ahead of the discussion. Ganz informed the Corona commissioner that he would instruct his party's ministers, blue and white, to support the "traffic light model" formulated in collaboration with the defense establishment.

Among other things, the two also discussed a response to Israelis who will return trained, and at the end of their meeting, the Minister announced that the Ministry of Defense will be preparing to house those returning from Ukraine in hotels in order to reduce the potential for infection.

"The entire defense establishment will continue to make most of its resources available to Prof. Gamzo and his staff in order to strengthen the war in Corona, while emphasizing the unique needs of each population," Minister Gantz said at the end of the meeting. "Gamzo will continue to receive all the organizational and political resources required to fulfill his role."

Meanwhile, a joint statement from the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Health stated: "The government has decided in a telephone poll to extend the declaration of a state of emergency due to the corona virus."

The announcement stated that "in view of the expected expiration of the declaration of a state of emergency due to the corona virus, on September 6, 2020, and in light of the fact that there is still a real risk of widespread corona virus and significant harm to public health."
