There are over 25 million cases of coronavirus officially registered in the world: this is what emerges from the data of Johns Hopkins University. According to the American university, the global contagion toll is now 25,029,791, including 842,992 deaths.

The United States remains the most affected country, with 5,961,884 infections and 182,785 deaths. Brazil follows with 3,846,153 cases and 120,262 deaths. India fell third rapidly, with 3,542,733 infections and 63,498 deaths.

Six months after identifying its first case of Covid-19, Brazil hit the threshold of 120,000 deaths on Saturday evening. Unlike Europe and Asia, where contamination and death curves rose rapidly before easing back after several weeks of lockdown, Brazil appears to have been stuck in an infinite plateau for three months, with around 1,000 deaths on average per day and many disparities between regions.

Argentina passed the threshold of 400,000 Covid-19 infections on Saturday, recording a record of 9,230 new cases in 24 hours and 82 deaths. This was announced by the Ministry of Health. The toll of the epidemic in the South American country, which has 44 million inhabitants, is 401,226 cases, including 8,353 deaths. The Argentine government two days ago announced the extension until September 20 of some containment measures. President Alberto Fernandez has expressed concern about the rapid increase in the number of cases in some regions of the country, particularly in the province of Jujuy (north), where "the health system is at its limit," he said.

India recorded 78,761 new coronavirus infections in 24 hours, the world's highest ever daily increase so far. The US had set the previous record on July 17 with 77,638 cases per day.

Coronavirus cases in Iran have increased in the past 24 hours by 1,754, bringing the total to 373,570. This was announced by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health. "So far 21,462 people have died, of which 103 in the last 24 hours", added Sima Lari. Among the 3,759 infected there are patients in intensive care and another 321,421 have recovered. The information was obtained from 3,207,269 tests carried out in the country.
