A four-year-old boy fell into a light shaft on a sports field in Grevenbroich in North Rhine-Westphalia. The child was seriously injured, the police said.
The shaft is therefore about six meters deep and five square meters in size. The boy was saved by his father and then taken to a clinic by rescue helicopter, it said.
The accident happened on Sunday afternoon. According to the current state of the investigation, the four-year-old was with other children and legal guardians on the sports field in Grevenbroich's Neurath district and played there. Why it could fall into the shaft was still unclear.
