Nike said last night that it separated from Brazilian footballer Neymar, concluding one of its highest-profile sponsorship deals after 15 years.
"I can confirm that Neymar is no longer a Nike athlete," said a spokesman for the American sportswear giant, Josh Benedek, without giving further details.
According to some media, the 28-year-old of Paris Saint-Germain is in talks with the Germans of Puma. For the Brazilian news site Uol, Neymar and Nike would not have been able to reach an economic agreement for the renewal of the footballer's contract.
Neymar currently holds the record for the most expensive transfer in football history: PSG paid 222 million euros to take him from Barcelona in 2017.
