The Ministry of Health confirmed on Sunday another 48 killed by coronavirus respect to the last report, bringing the death toll in the country amounts to 8,401.

The new deaths correspond to 30 men (16 from the province of Buenos Aires, five from the City, one Chaco, one from Córdoba, one from Entre Ríos, one from Neuquén, two from Río Negro, two from Salta, one from Santa Fe ) and 18 women (six from the Province, five from CABA, two from Chaco, one from Mendoza and four residents of Río Negro).

Alejandro Costa, Undersecretary of Health Strategies, was in charge of reporting the updated figures of the pandemic in the country. He indicated that the fatality rate is 2.1%, that 184 people die per million inhabitants and that the average age of the fatal victims is 72.4 years.

According to the official, 401,239 people contracted the disease , the vast majority by community transmission (61%), mainly in the metropolitan area of ​​Buenos Aires, Chaco, Neuquén, Río Negro, Comodoro Rivadavia, Mendoza, Santa Fe, Jujuy, Salta, Santiago del Estero, La Pampa, Córdoba, Entre Ríos, Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego, Tucumán and La Rioja.

In total, 2,192 people are admitted to intensive care . Thus, the percentage of bed occupancy is 60.6% nationwide and 68.7% in the metropolitan area, the most affected area in the country.

The official added that 294,007 people have already been discharged, of which 6,787 recovered on Saturday. These patients represent 73.27% of the total.

On the other hand, Costa highlighted the increase in tests carried out throughout the country, with 1,242,269 in total and 19,910 on Saturday. With these figures, the country reached 27,376 tests per million inhabitants, with a positivity rate of 36%.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Access to Health, Carla Vizzotti, pointed out that the average number of daily infections in the last seven days was 9,205 and warned about the "increase in cases steadily in the vast majority of jurisdictions."

He also noted that "there are no provinces that have not reported cases in the last 14 days," although two provinces (Catamarca and Formosa) did not report cases on Saturday.
