The literary re-entry brings smiles back to booksellers and publishing houses.
Like many sectors, the publishing world suffered during the lockdown period between mid-March and early May 2020. With the closure of bookstores and the distribution problems of platforms like Amazon and Fnac, the book market has lost 284 million euros in turnover during the period, a drop of 67% in sales, according to figures communicated by the GfK institute.
“But since May 11, when bookstores reopened until July, we have seen a real rebound in book sales.
They show a gain of 87 million euros compared to those for the same period of 2019, an increase of 13%, ”
notes Camille Oriot, head of data for the book market at GfK.
"This benefited above all general literature, children's publishing and comics, which posted a rebound of more than 30%"
