About two weeks ago, the Ministry of Health announced that the system of corona tests for those flying abroad will be transferred from the health funds that provided free corona tests to hospitals and private laboratories.

The transition from the health funds to the hospitals and private laboratories has created a situation in which each passenger has to pay between NIS 200 and NIS 1,300 for corona tests in order to be able to present them in the destination country.

The decision of the Ministry of Health was supposed to take effect at the end of last month, but a test we conducted with all the health funds in Israel revealed that they still allow flying abroad to perform corona tests completely free, while hospitals and private laboratories charge at least hundreds of shekels for the exact same test. .

Next month, a Corona laboratory will be set up at Ben Gurion Airport, where Corona tests will cost passengers between NIS 45 for those who agree to receive an answer within 14 hours and NIS 135 for those who need the results within up to four hours.

In the meantime, corona tests can be performed at the HMOs completely free of charge, until the Ministry of Health decides otherwise.

Quite a few passengers who did not know about the possibility and believed that the new law came into force have already performed corona tests in private laboratories and paid considerable sums for them, especially when it comes to families.

In a check with the Ministry of Health, they claim that, "the process of transferring responsibility for tests to those leaving the health funds to the hospitals is delayed due to the laboratory strike and will be possible immediately upon its completion."

The Ministry of Health also claims that, "the laboratory at Ben Gurion Airport will not replace the hospitals due to the need for tests nationwide."

The Ministry of Health's response shows a situation in which, with the establishment of the laboratory at Ben Gurion Airport, those who live close to Ben Gurion Airport will be able to perform corona tests before the flight for NIS 45, but those who live far away will have to pay hundreds of shekels for the exact same test.
