The week ends with a new record of covid cases in one day: 10,476

Health registers 256 deaths in the last seven days, the highest number since the statistical system changed in May

The last report of the week of the coronavirus data from the Ministry of Health comes with a new record of cases: in the last 24 hours, 10,476 positives have been added to the statistic.

The highest figure so far was just a week ago, with 9,779 infections.

After a few days in which the growth of the epidemic had lost steam, Spain reached the highest accumulated incidence of the virus in the last 14 days during the second wave: 216 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Madrid continues to be the epicenter of the epidemic in the country.

It accumulates almost a third of all weekly positives (14,085 out of 46,867) and its incidence is 473 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last two weeks, far ahead of La Rioja (371), the Basque Country (364) and Navarra (305) .

All the others are below 300. The one with the lowest incidence continues to be Asturias (51), although it is also growing gradually there.

However, in percentage terms, Madrid, with 13.7% more accumulated incidence than on Thursday, is not the community where it grows the most.

It does so with more momentum in Melilla (67.3%), Extremadura (54.5%), Castilla-La Mancha (39.2%) and Cantabria (38.2%).

In these places, with a below-average spread of the virus, fewer cases create a larger increase.

The coronavirus only declines in percentage of positives in the Balearic Islands and Aragon, which just this Friday just removed the limitations that had been imposed a month and a half ago, after achieving a sustained reduction for four weeks.

Hospital pressure continues to grow: there are already 7% of beds occupied by covid-19 patients.

Also in this section, the distribution is very uneven.

In Madrid it is 15%, while in Asturias it is only 1%.

In any case, the trend is up.

In all Spain there are 7,392 patients admitted with coronavirus, 976 of them, in Intensive Care Units (ICU).

The first thing the statistics reflect when the epidemic progresses are the cases.

This is reflected after a few weeks in hospitals and shortly after in funeral homes.

This is long overdue, and coronavirus deaths continue to climb.

This Friday there are 184 new deaths for a total of 29,418, according to official statistics, a figure that surely falls short, since many patients died without diagnosis.

Of all of them, with a date of death in the last seven days (this statistic is late) there are 256 people.

It is the highest death toll since the ministry does this weekly count, which began on May 25.

Although not even at the worst moment of the first wave had such a high number of new positives been registered in 24 hours, experts continue to insist that the situation is very different, since the diagnostic capacity allows finding many more cases than then. the vast majority mild or even asymptomatic.

Last spring, practically only the patients who required hospitalization were identified, so the avalanche of cases came practically at the same time as the saturation of the hospitals, something that for the moment is far in this second epidemic wave.
