Greece opens its gates to Israelis:

After about two weeks ago, the Greek authorities allowed the movement of Israeli tourists throughout the country, today (Monday) Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi updated that starting next week, the entry of tourists and businessmen from Israel to the country will not be restricted.

This significant step on the way to opening the skies came today after Foreign Minister Ashkenazi spoke with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dandias, who updated him on the Greek government's decision to allow, as stated, Greece to allow tourists and businessmen from Israel to enter without limiting the number of tourists and destinations.

This decision is expected to take effect from September 15 and the entry of Israelis will be allowed subject to a 72-hour corona examination.

Foreign Minister Ashkenazi thanked his Greek counterpart and welcomed the move that opens the sky with another significant step: "Israel and Greece have an important strategic partnership. The fact that Greece is the first country to open its gates in the Corona era is proof of the strong alliance between Greece and Israel. "An example of how cooperation and direct dialogue between countries is the surest way to economic prosperity."

The Minister of Transportation, Miri Regev, also welcomed the significant step of the Greek government and said: "The continued opening of Greece to Israeli tourism, without restriction, is an important message for the residents of Israel who asked us to expand their travel destinations. It also proves that the graded and responsible policy "The sky was right. I thank Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi and the Foreign Ministry staff who are already working to open more destinations."

As noted, entry into the country will be made subject to the passengers having to present at the entrance a corona test in English done 72 hours before the flight and register on the Greek website and the website of the Ministry of Health.

Earlier today, Greek authorities informed Israeli airlines that they could also fly to the islands of Rhodes and Kos on direct flights from the country, after about two weeks ago Greek authorities allowed Israeli tourists throughout the country after being restricted to staying in Crete, Corfu, Thessaloniki and Athens.

Despite the alarming morbidity rate in Israel, so far no cases have been reported in which Israeli tourists became or became infected during a vacation in Greece.

Yesterday a passenger landed in Greece who received a "borderline positive" result and the case is being handled by the authorities, all passengers on the same flight will be charged in isolation.

In about a week, Greece is expected to increase the number of Israeli tourists allowed to enter the country.

Currently there is a limit to only 1,200 Israelis per week, the first two weeks started with only 600 Israelis per week.
