WhatsApp has had the function to delete messages for some time.

But what many do not know: You can easily see the messages again.

Munich - In 2017 the messenger service WhatsApp introduced a new function that should end the suffering of many users who struggled with the auto-correction of their mobile phones.

Because messages that contained embarrassing typographical errors or were sent too quickly can now be easily deleted.

Delete WhatsApp messages with the trash can icon

All you have to do is tap and hold on the message you want to delete and then delete it using the trash can icon at the top of the screen.

This function can be particularly useful if you accidentally send a message to the wrong recipient.

But are the deleted messages really deleted forever or is it possible to read what has been written after the deletion process?

First of all, it should be said: WhatsApp messages are not permanently deleted.

It's not that easy to display them again, but it is by no means impossible.

Because the messenger service basically saves the chat logs of its users so that they can keep their messages even if they change their cell phone.

If, for example, you receive a message from your partner that he will delete shortly afterwards, it is still possible to read it after the deletion process.

Show deleted WhatsApp messages: This is what users can do for it

For example, if someone quoted a message before it was deleted, the original message will no longer be displayed, but the quoted version can still be viewed.

WhatsApp's quotation function is used by dragging the desired message far to the right of the screen.

The selected message is then displayed as a quote above the respective answer.

But even without the quotation function, WhatsApp messages can still be displayed after they have been deleted.

As the portal

reports, by downloading third-party apps, you can create your own chat logs that contain the entire message history.

These can then be displayed without any problems and also contain messages that were deleted afterwards.

However, only if the said apps were already installed on the mobile phone when the message that you want to read later was deleted.

Apps make WhatsApp message available after deletion

An example of such an app is “Notification History Log”.

However, the installation allows such an app to access all of WhatsApp's data.

So if you are concerned about the security of your data, you should be careful here.

In addition, there is another possibility circulating on the Internet how to display deleted WhatsApp messages again.

For this you have to activate the developer options of the operating system (only possible with Android) and then - at least in theory - you can directly access the WhatsApp log data.

Deleted WhatsApp messages: You can hack your own smartphone

In order to activate the developer options, you have to select the sub-items "About the phone" and "Software information" in the general settings.

In the submenu then displayed, press the "Build number" item several times in quick succession until a pop-up message appears.

Now you have activated developer options.

Then you should be able to access the text file “android.text” in the “notification settings”, which contains the chat logs - including deleted messages.

However, this hack doesn't always work and only on some Android devices.

In addition, WhatsApp has announced three more functions that should simplify the operation of the app.

Also announced: a new function on WhatsApp drills up videos.

Soon there will also be new options for placing advertising on Whatsapp - and that will not please many users.

The WhatsApp messenger service is probably one of the apps that are most frequently used by smartphones.

However, if the cellular network and internet connection are insufficient, this can lead to a problem.

This is currently the case for some Telekom customers who have previously used an old ISDN tariff.

WhatsApp offers its users a great deal.

There are still some things to criticize: WhatsApp is derided by the new function that enables documents to be sent.

It could set a precedent: For the first time, Facebook is suing a software company for WhatsApp espionage - but it is resisting.
