(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 08 - The discussion of the constitutional bill on the so-called 18-year-old vote in the Senate will begin tomorrow at 10 in the Senate hall.
The provision, approved at first reading in the Chamber, would modify article 58 of the Constitution which currently provides that the voters of the Senate must be at least 25 years old and can be elected from 40 years of age up.
At the beginning of the hall Lega and Forza Italia had asked for the postponement of the exam, postponing it to 23 September, that is, after the referendum on the cut in the number of parliamentarians, scheduled for 20 and 21 September. Put to a vote, the proposal was dropped. "It seems more correct to wait for the outcome of the referendum, before tackling another equally important step on this issue", explained the League leader Massimiliano Romeo. The deputy vice president of Forza Italia, Lucio Malan, echoed: "We are in favor of the postponement because this bill must not be an election spot for anyone. It affects the Constitution and therefore deserves respect for adequate discussion". (HANDLE).
