Federal police officers fetched two completely drunk senior citizens from a Deutsche Bahn ICE at Hanover main station.

The two women, aged 72 and 75, were lying in the aisle of a wagon and could no longer get up on their own, the officials said.

Alcohol tests showed values of 4.21 and 3.02 per mille for the women from North Rhine-Westphalia.

The crew of the ICE from Berlin had informed the emergency services on Tuesday evening because they wanted to exclude the women from the ride.

"Both women were completely deranged and no longer able to walk independently," reported the officials in Hanover.

The women refused to be admitted to a hospital.

Instead, they wanted to go home.

The federal police then decided to take the senior citizens into so-called protective custody for their own safety.

They each had to spend the night in a cell to sober up.

After six hours they could leave.

Drunk man attacking police officers on a train

The Hanover police reported another use in an ICE on Wednesday morning.

Two officers were called to a train stopping in Göttingen.

The ICE on the way to Hamburg had to be stopped because a heavily drunk man refused to wear a mouth and nose cover.

The 37-year-old, in whom an alcohol test showed a value of 2.19 per thousand, was also very aggressive towards the police.

Then he was forcibly removed from the train, the police said.

He bit into the upper arm of an officer.

Both shirt and t-shirt were cut.

The policeman was declared incapacitated and taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Investigations into resistance were initiated against the perpetrator, who was known to the police.
