Because of the pandemic, the British Royals Foundation has already announced that it will cut short-term jobs. Now there is a threat of further cuts. Among other things, it is about severance payments and a reduction in pension entitlements.

The corona crisis does not stop at the finances of the British royals: The lack of income could cost several hundred employees of the royal palaces the job.

"Due to the effects of the corona pandemic on the finances of the Royal Collection Trust, we have to reduce personnel costs," said a spokeswoman for the Royal Collection Trust of the German press agency.

The foundation manages the castles and works of art owned by the British royals.

A voluntary severance payment program was set up, which around 100 employees took advantage of, said the spokeswoman.

In addition, there is a zero rate in wages and talks are being held about a reduction in pension entitlements.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, up to 300 of the Queen's 600 domestic workers could be affected by the measures.

The employees work in the royal family's estates, including Buckingham Palace.

In front of Windsor Castle, some workers in their uniforms gathered for a silent protest on Tuesday.

They held a poster that read, "King Heinrich cut off heads. Now they want to get rid of our jobs and cut our pensions. Loyalty is not a one-way street!" As seen on a Twitter photo from the PCS Union.

Many of the royal family's servants are organized in this.

The corona crisis has also hit the royals hard financially.

In May, the foundation had already announced that it would cut several hundred short-term jobs due to the crisis.
