(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 09 - Portugal recorded 646 new cases of coronavirus in one day, the highest daily increase since April 20, although much lower than other European countries.
The Portuguese Minister of Health, JamilaMadeira, explained in a press conference that most of the new infections occurred within families.
Cases of Covid-19 in Portugal had dropped to around 100 a day in early August, but have since increased, alarming the tourism industry in particular.
From mid-September, when schools reopen and many more workers return to the office, stricter measures will be taken even though the government has not yet announced the details.
Data from the Ministry of Health showed that the new cases are mainly concentrated in the north and in the Lisbon region.
