It is an understatement to say that the museums and monuments of France are facing an existential crisis.
The model on which many of them operated, relying more and more on mass tourism and foreign visitors, was fractured in the Covid-19 crisis.
While arbitrations continue at the Ministry of Culture to distribute the 614 million euros of exceptional aid between the structures affected by the crisis, they wonder about the lessons to be drawn from such a special summer.
“Some monuments, especially in rural areas, have made more entries than usual.
The disaster is Paris, which accounted for 25% of the attendance in previous summers and, all monuments combined, we are at 50% of summer 2019 ”,
