The Democratic Party filed "an entirely replacement amendment" of the part on the passive electorate of the Senate (to lower the age to be elected senators to 25, compared to the current 40), which it had previously added to the constitutional reform on the vote of eighteen year olds for elect senators.

The bill, which amends Article 58 of the Constitution and was approved at first reading on July 31, 2019 in the Chamber, is now in the courtroom at Palazzo Madama, in the second of the four steps envisaged for constitutional laws.

The text differs from that voted in Montecitorio because in January the rapporteur of the measure, the senator of the Democratic Party Dario Parrini, presented an amendment on the possibility of being elected at 25 years of age.

The Constitutional Affairs Commission of the Senate has 'passed' the amendment that has thus arrived in the Chamber. Today at the beginning of the discussion, Parrini announced the amendment that withdraws the part on the passive electorate.

This would return to the same text voted in the House.

"We insist on 'modernizing' the Parliament, not only by opening up to 18-year-old voters, but above all to those who are 25 years old and who, according to the text of the reform, could become a senator. We note that the 5 Stars and Pd instead stop to the active electorate: we are always on the side of young people and we will vote against the amendment presented by Senator Parrini which effectively removes the possibility of being elected in the Senate for 25 year-olds. Enough of the sloppy reforms, we need to be serious to change the Country, renewing its ruling class ".

So in a note the deputy leader of Italy alive Laura Garavini.
