(ANSA) - BRAZIL, SEPTEMBER 10 - The American actor, LeonardoDiCaprio has joined an international campaign against the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, for his environmental policy in the Amazon.

The Hollywood star has posted hashtags along with a video in English asking foreign investors to boycott the products of the forest devastated by the arsonists.

The video was the starting point of an international campaign launched with the support of various NGOs, such as Greenpeace and WWF, together with the Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (Apib).

In the presentation of the campaign, Apib members argued that the fires in the Amazon last July grew by 30% compared to the same month in 2019.

Last year, DiCaprio was the protagonist of a controversy with Bolsonaro, who accused the actor of funding NGOs suspected of involvement in the fires.

On the other hand, last week the head of state claimed that he had been the victim of unjustified criticisms about his policy in favor of tropical forest and called environmental NGOs a "cancer".
